American Airlines grows Venezuela network with first-ever service to Barcelona

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines continues to enhance air service between the United States and Venezuela with new service to Barcelona (BLA) launching Jan. 15, 2027. Joining existing flights to Caracas (CCS) and Maracaibo (MAR), American is further improving its industry-leading position connecting the U.S. with Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.

American will serve BLA with three weekly flights from its Miami (MIA) hub on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flights will operate with Embraer 175 aircraft featuring premium cabin offerings and customer-friendly amenities including Wi-Fi and in-seat power.

“American is proud of the robust service we’re providing to Venezuela and prouder still that we are the only U.S. airline serving Venezuela. The addition of Barcelona further strengthens our long-standing commitment to the country,” said American’s Senior Vice President and Chief Government Affairs Officer Stephen Neuman. “This new flight to our Miami hub will also benefit customers with one-stop access to more than 100 destinations in North America. We are grateful to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and both the U.S. and Venezuelan governments for their support in launching this new service.”

Barcelona and nearby Puerto La Cruz are major commercial and industrial centers in eastern Venezuela. American’s nonstop service will help foster new and growing business ties. Earlier this year, American became the first U.S. airline since 2019 to resume service to Venezuela.

Following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, American operated a dedicated relief flight to Caracas, delivering more than 9,000 pounds of essential supplies to support affected communities. As CCS reopened for international air service, American was the first U.S. airline to resume daily service.

Following the launch of service to BLA, American will operate 24 weekly flights between the U.S. and Venezuela. This includes twice-daily service to CCS and daily service to MAR from MIA.

Tickets for flights to BLA will be available for purchase starting Oct. 19 on aa.com or through American’s mobile app.
