GenAIRations: Every day is Father’s Day in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) Fleet Service Crew Chief Al Dinello has been with American for 40 years. In those four decades, he’s not only had the opportunity to travel around the world with his family, but he’s also spent time closer to home with his sons Angelo and Antonio Dinello — much closer. That’s because Angelo and Antonio are also Fleet Service team members at PIT.

While flight privileges come in handy for team members to take advantage of on their days off, it’s those same flight privileges that strengthened the Dinello’s bond after the unexpected passing of Pandora, Al’s wife and Angelo and Antonio’s mother, in 2014. Soon after, Al was commuting between PIT and Philadelphia International Airport to work a more flexible schedule so he could spend more time raising his three kids at home.

More than a decade later, the family is closer than ever. When Al and sons aren’t overlapping shifts at the airport, you can find them on the softball field. And, yes, they still travel together with daughter and sister, Mia.

“A guy comes up to me and he says, ‘My kids are out of town. I rarely see them. You have your kids who want to hang out with you. How does it feel having Father’s Day every day?’” Al said, beaming with pride.

You can probably guess the answer, but if you need a hint, stop by local Pittsburgh institution Primanti Bros. at the airport one night and find out for yourself. Chances are the Dinellos will be there enjoying dinner together and will welcome you with open arms to join them.
