The AAdvantage Business program celebrates 2 years of making business travel pay off

Two years ago, American Airlines launched the AAdvantage Business℠ program with a straightforward goal: make business travel more rewarding for the companies and travelers who keep business moving.

Since its rollout, thousands of businesses have joined the program and millions of miles have been earned. Throughout the program’s first two years, American has introduced enhancements that make it even more valuable — especially for small and medium-sized businesses that benefit from tools designed to simplify travel management and maximize the return on every trip.

Key program enhancements include:

  • Trip credit flexibility to allow reassignment and management by Travel Managers
  • Customizable travel policy functionality
  • Corporate credit card payment management
  • Expense integration with Expensify, Emburse and Ramp
  • A dedicated AAdvantage Business℠ service desk
  • Launch of the AAdvantage Business Select™ tier, designed to reward businesses as they grow

The program started with a simple idea: make every trip count for small and midsized businesses. It has now evolved into a powerful platform that helps companies manage travel and streamline operations, all while rewarding businesses and travelers for every trip with American.

“The AAdvantage Business℠ program was designed to be the premier solution for small and medium-sized businesses, delivering benefits that accrue to both the corporation and the end traveler,” said Lucas Martin, Vice President of Sales at American. “We have seen strong and accelerated adoption, and we are just getting started.”

Tailored for small and medium-sized businesses, the AAdvantage Business℠ program offers robust travel management tools and the ability to earn rewards on eligible bookings made anywhere with American. It’s a strategic way to turn everyday business travel into long-term value — especially for companies without large travel departments.

What’s next: simpler, more flexible and more rewarding

Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the program will introduce updates designed to make unlocking redemption benefits for companies even easier:

  • Calendar-year reset: Companies will qualify for redemption benefits on a calendar year basis. Once a company qualifies, these benefits remain active through the end of the current calendar year and the entire following year — up to 24 months.
  • More opportunities: Every dollar spent on eligible employee travel will count toward unlocking redemption benefits for a business. This will include spend for nonregistered travelers booked under the business account.

These updates ensure every mile and every trip matters, bringing even more transparency and value to the program.

Simple, seamless and built for everyone on board

The AAdvantage Business℠ program is free to join and designed to benefit both companies and their travelers.

  • Companies earn 1 AAdvantage® mile for every dollar spent on eligible travel with American booked anywhere — aa.com, the American app or through agency partners.
  • Travelers can earn additional Loyalty Points, on top of the miles and Loyalty Points already earned through their AAdvantage® accounts, accelerating their path to status.
  • Travel managers have access to a travel management portal with a suite of tools to manage Trip Credits, travel policy and more.
The new AAdvantage Business Select™ tier is designed to reward businesses as they grow. Companies with a program spend of $250,000 or more unlock exclusive savings up to 4%, Preferred boarding for their travelers and immediate access to redeem or transfer miles.

With the Citi® / AAdvantage® Business World Elite Mastercard®, businesses can earn even more with everyday spending. When used for business purchases, the company earns additional AAdvantage® miles, while each cardmember earns Loyalty Points toward their AAdvantage® status — helping teams reach their goals faster on the ground and in the air.
