TRAVEL ALERT: Winter Storm Elliott to Impact Midwest, Northeast and East Coast Airports

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines continues to monitor Winter Storm Elliott, which is expected to impact Midwest, Northeast and East Coast airports in the United States this week.

American is prepared to care for customers during the holiday travel season, including when severe weather hits. Critical to American’s preparations was sizing the airline for the resources it has available and operating conditions it faces, as well as being able to react quickly to get customers on their way once the weather clears.

To provide additional flexibility for its customers and to prevent last-minute disruptions at the airport, American has issued travel alerts for 87 airports in the Northeast and Midwest, and across portions of the East Coast, allowing customers whose travel plans are affected by Winter Storm Elliott to rebook without change fees. Customers can reschedule their travel on the American Airlines app and aa.com or by contacting Reservations at 800-433-7300 in the United States or Canada.

If a customer chooses not to fly to/from an airport covered by the current waiver, American will waive change fees for future travel. Customers are also encouraged to check the status of their flight on the American Airlines app or aa.com.

If an American flight has been canceled or excessively delayed, customers may cancel their itinerary and request a refund by visiting American’s website. Customers who booked through a travel agent should contact their travel agency directly.

American will continue tracking this weather system and make any adjustments to ensure the safety of its customers and team members.
