Three generations, one airline and a century of flight

As American Airlines celebrates a century of flight, our most powerful stories are grounded in our people.

LGA-based Flight Attendant Lisa Gregory’s journey with American spans three generations and nearly the entire history of commercial aviation. Her grandmother joined American’s very first class of flight attendants in 1933, at a time when flying required courage, resilience and a nursing background. Her mother followed in 1949 as the industry modernized and expanded. And in 1984, Lisa earned her own wings, becoming American’s first third-generation flight attendant.

For more than four decades, Lisa has served customers, mentored others and built lasting connections — embodying the professionalism, resilience and heart that define the flight attendant role. Stories like Lisa’s remind us that American’s legacy is built on dedication passed from one generation to the next.

As we look to the future, we proudly honor the people who have shaped our history and continue to inspire what’s ahead.
