American Airlines first revealed “Flagship DFW” last fall as part of the
airline’s centennial celebrations. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, registered as
N735AT, features a bold look that pays homage to American’s rich history with a
modern flair.
This aircraft is one of several ways the airline has brought its history to
life with consumers to celebrate 100 years of flight while looking ahead to the
next 100 years of flight.
Painted over two weeks in November 2025, Flagship DFW is the airline’s only
fully painted special livery on a widebody aircraft.
Each detail of the aircraft honors the airline’s legacy. The roundel towards the rear of the aircraft
features one of the most recognizable motifs from American’s history: the eagle
connecting the world. American flies to more than 350 global destinations today
and operates more flights carrying more customers than any other airline in the
world — a reminder of how far the airline has come since its first flight in
1926.
Underlying all of this is the airline’s current Silver Eagle®
paint color currently flying on more than 1,600 planes today. Over this, the
bold orange lightning bolt from American’s past serves as a reminder of how far
American has come and our excitement for the future.
American’s Flagship aircraft over the years
Nearly 90 years ago, the Douglas DC-3 marked American’s first foray into
premium air travel. Travelers boarding the aircraft were greeted with an iconic
livery that American is now paying homage to with Flagship DFW.
The first DC-3 aircraft in American’s fleet could carry 21 passengers and
flew short-haul flights such as between Chicago and New York. Today, American’s
777-300ERs have the capacity for more than 300 passengers and fly some of the
airline’s longest-range missions, including from Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney
(SYD). Just as the DC-3 was one of American’s most iconic and
aircraft, so too is the 777-300ER.
Flagship DFW has traveled across the airline’s network, giving customers and
aviation enthusiasts a chance to see a unique piece of American’s story. Soon,
the airline will upgrade the interior to feature 70 Flagship Suite®
seats and 44 Premium Economy seats, elevating the standard of air travel once
again.
Named after American’s largest hub at Dallas Fort Worth International
Airport (DFW), the livery is a testament to nearly 100 years of the airline’s
growth. American is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and employs more than
37,000 team members in the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone. Since operating the
first arrival into DFW in 1974, American has grown the airport to one of the
world’s largest airline hubs. American flies nonstop to more than 240
destinations from DFW and operates more than 930 peak daily departures from the
airport.
