A century celebrated: Commemorating 100 years of American

On April 15, American Airlines marked a historic milestone with celebrations honoring its past, present and future. The centennial anniversary reflected how far the airline has come and the opportunities that lie ahead as American enters its next century of connecting people and communities around the world.

Celebrating with customers

What started as a simple flight carrying mail between Chicago and St. Louis has now become one of the world’s largest airlines, transporting more than 700,000 customers every day. To highlight this expansive growth, American held special customer celebrations at all hub airports commemorating the 100th scheduled departure of the day. In St. Louis and at JFK, we brought the celebration to flights 1926 and 100, respectively.

Thanking American’s team members

Hundreds of thousands of team members at American and its heritage carriers have helped shape the airline’s story, building not just an incredible history of innovative spirit, but also an iconic brand flying to more than 350 destinations worldwide. To honor those who helped establish this history and support the airline today, team member celebrations took place around the world.

Creating memories with partners

American’s relationships with local sports teams were also on display in select locations, with mascots and even some cheerleader appearances driving excitement for customers and team members. Charlotte FC, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams all helped make the day even more memorable.

Local leaders and airport partners acknowledged American’s vital role keeping communities across the country connected to the world, participating in American’s centennial celebrations and offering public anniversary wishes.

The centennial celebrations honored a century defined by connection, innovation and pride, and looked ahead to what American aims to achieve in its next 100 years.
