Packing for a purpose in Tulsa

The spring storm season tore through Oklahoma and the Midwest in May. Severe storms, tornadoes and straight-line winds hit the Tulsa area for days, causing severe flooding in the city and surrounding communities where thousands of American Airlines team members call home. At one point, all 77 counties in Oklahoma were under a state of emergency due to historic flooding. Community organizations like Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma rushed to help families in need of emergency meals, which left their stock of supplies low. In partnership with the food bank and Feeding America, American’s Tech Ops — Tulsa team showed what it’s like to care for people on life’s journey by packing 5,000 emergency meal boxes — that’s 75,000 pounds of food — in record time to help with local disaster relief.
