American Airlines Becomes the Only US Carrier with Nonstop Service from Miami to Tel Aviv and Paramaribo, Suriname

Miami’s Hometown Airline deepens commitment to the community with new and increased service

  • American introduces new destination to route map with nonstop service from Miami (MIA) to Paramaribo, Suriname and adds new flight from MIA to Tel Aviv (TLV) beginning in June.
  • MIA will launch new summer service to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT), and Portland, Maine (PWM).
  • Airline increases capacity to Latin America and the Caribbean with additional frequencies from MIA to the Caribbean starting in April; and new service from Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX) starting June.

MIAMI — American Airlines is strengthening its commitment to its Miami hub with the announcement of two new international routes to Tel Aviv (TLV) and Paramaribo, Suriname (PBM), beginning this summer. The airline is also introducing two new domestic routes from the MIA hub to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT) and Portland, Maine (PWM), operating from June 5 through Aug. 16. All flights will be available for purchase Feb. 15.

New international routes launching from the south

American will complement recently announced service from New York (JFK) to TLV with flights from MIA to TLV launching in June. Three times weekly service from MIA to TLV begins June 4 and will operate on a Boeing 777-200. Customers will have the option to choose Flagship Business, with lie flat seats, Premium Economy or Main Cabin on the 12-hour flight. The airline intends to offer Kosher meals for pre-order and kosher wine on board.

“American has always been the biggest and best in Miami with more flights to more places than any other carrier, and as demand recovers, we’ll be even bigger and better than ever before,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. “Our new service to Tel Aviv and Paramaribo are the start of further growth in Miami, and as the city grows and expands, American will do the same.”

Beginning in July, American will also be the first and only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service to PBM. Flights will operate five times per week on an Airbus 319, with a convenient schedule for customers traveling across the United States to connect through MIA. As a new destination for the airline, Suriname becomes the ninth country served in South America.

More from MIA

This year, customers can also look forward to more frequencies to the Caribbean from MIA. For example, Port-au-Prince (PAP) will increase to five daily flights beginning in April; and Santiago (STI) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) in the Dominican Republic, will increase to operate four and seven daily flights, respectively. In addition to the PAP service from MIA, the airline will offer an additional daily flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL) to PAP, beginning April 2.

MIA will also increase service to Latin America, with 12 destinations seeing more frequencies this summer compared to 2019. Last year, the airline introduced the Boeing 787-8 aircraft to the Miami hub, offering additional capacity to a number of destinations. That service includes Bogota (BOG), Medellin (MDE), and Cali (CLO) in Colombia; Guayaquil (GYE) and Quito (UIO) in Ecuador; Lima, Peru (LIM); PAP; and Santiago, Chile (SCL).

Beginning June 5, the airline will launch Saturday service from MIA to LIT and PWM. This is the first time American will operate this service during the summer months, providing more options for customers in Little Rock and Portland to visit sunny South Florida or connect seamlessly on to one of the many destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Since establishing our Miami hub in 1989, American’s commitment to our community and to our team has not wavered,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of Operations for Miami, the Caribbean and Latin America. “Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to strengthen our capacity in Miami to match demand in Latin America and the Caribbean. With new international destinations launching this year — Tel Aviv and Suriname — two new domestic destinations — Little Rock and Portland — and additional flights to key destinations in the Caribbean, we look forward to further deepening our ties to Miami.”

Latin America and Caribbean growth

American has continued to increase its capacity to Latin America and the Caribbean by upgauging aircraft and adding more service. This summer, American is planning for 16% more capacity to the region from MIA compared to 2019.

With a significant demand for travel to Latin America and the Caribbean, American will double capacity in Colombia and Peru, while increasing more than 50% capacity in Ecuador and 24% capacity to Central America compared to 2019. This summer the airline is also adding service to the region from its hubs Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles(LAX). Caribbean additions include a new destination to Samana (AZS), operated seasonally from CLT, as well as seasonal service from DFW to St. Maarten (SXM) and St. Lucia (UVF). New routes to Mexico include service from DFW to Merida (MID), as well as from LAX to Cancun (CUN).
