Supporting Those Affected by Hurricane Michael

As operations resume in areas impacted by Hurricane Michael, American Airlines is ramping up efforts to support those impacted in the communities it serves.

Later this month, 200 Miami-based team members will pack 5,000 hygiene comfort kits with soap, deodorant, towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more to be distributed by the American Red Cross to those most impacted by Hurricane Michael. Early next month, more than 200 team members in Chicago will partner with Feeding America to assemble 75,000 pounds of food for food banks in the areas impacted by recent natural disasters.

American Airlines is a proud to be a $1 million member of the Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) and is committed to supporting those impacted by natural disasters like Hurricane Michael. Last month American made a $300,000 donation to the Red Cross to help those impacted by Hurricane Florence.

The Red Cross has activated its fullest resources in the impacted regions of Hurricane Michael. Monetary donations are the best way to assist those in need at this time, which will help provide shelter, food, relief supplies and health services through trained Red Cross personnel who are on the ground in disaster areas. From now through Nov. 2, AAdvantage members can earn 10 miles for every dollar donated to the Red Cross with a minimum $25 donation. Visit the Red Cross website to donate now.

Late last month more than 170 team members descended on the Charlotte Douglas International Airport Line Maintenance hangar to help those impacted by Hurricane Florence. Team members spent the day packing 75,000 pounds of food into 5,000 emergency food kits, to be distributed to individuals affected by recent natural disasters. American partnered with Feeding America, a national non-profit organization who works with local food banks to connect people with food in times of need. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina was the recipient of all 5,000 kits. They then transported all the meals to Fayetteville, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and other coastal Carolina cities.
